I am no sweet rhymer – Lucebert (ZO | SUN)

(Nederlands onder)

The complete body of work of Lucebert (1924-1994), the most well-known post-war experimental poet of the Netherlands, will be translated into English. Recently, the first of the four intended volumes was published, containing all of Lucebert’s poetry up until 1952, translated by Diane Butterman at Green Integer. Lucebert’s work is deeply embedded in Dutch literary history, but internationally he is, despite a number of translations, not that well-known yet. With this new translation, his work has become accessible to a larger, international audience. How will this audience respond to Luceberts experimental poetry? During this program, his work will be recited bilingually and poets and readers from different countries and various contexts will react to these poems. How does the experimental and ‘empirical’ poetry of Lucebert work out for them? Will they be able to break open the traditional reception of Lucebert?
